Match Report - 05 Mar 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Wycombe Wanderers

The Robins returned to winning ways despite having had to stretch their resources with a combination of injury and unavailablities. Wycombe fielded a team also affected by injuries but despite that contributed to an entertaining game.

Both sides took a while to settle into a rhythm as both sets of players tried to get the ball down and play. The Robins settled the quicker of the two and were soon putting on a good show of passing and movement which resulted in a number of good crosses from both Whittaker and Friar on the flanks. The Wycombe keeper claimed several of them to nullify the threat. It wasn't long until a cross from Whittaker eluded the Wycombe defence and found Michelle Turner in the right place to fire home left footed after 17 minutes.

With the Robins having gained the advantage it wasn't long before they extended their lead with a well taken goal by Tracy Beales, her first for the club, after latching onto a through ball from Jen Friar.

Wycombe responded with some decent football of their own and forced Cox in the Robins goal into action, once from a corner and the other from a dangerous cross into the box.

The experienced and capable central midfield pairing of Patterson and Constable provided the platform for the Robins attacks as well as working hard to assist their defensive colleagues in snuffing out any potential threat from their visitors.

On 32 minutes, another ball into the Wycombe area found the alert Beales on hand to strike firmly from 15 yards into the bottom corner of the net. The same player came close to getting her third goal as she just failed to make contact with a telling cross from Emma Constable who had made a surging run past two defenders to create the chance.

The second half began with Wycombe again trying to play their way back into the game. Their pace coupled with some good accurate passing perhaps deserved better but they found an immovable force in the guise of Boyle, Campbell and skipper Angie Barton.

Sue Bowen replaced the hard working Tracy Corkett on the hour and immediately made a positive impact with her strength and pace. On 63 minutes, another Wycombe attack was halted in its tracks by Barton. Her pass found Emma Constable who played in Jo Whittaker who chipped the ball over the Wycombe keeper from just inside the penalty area in only her second appearance in the past 3 months following injury.

Patterson came close on several occasions as she tried her luck from range. Such forays into the heart of the hard working Wycombe back line encouraged more inventiveness around the edge of the penalty area. A quick give and go between the lively Beales and Emma Constable resulted in Beales scoring her first hat-trick for the club as she beat the keeper in a 1v1 to wrap up the scoring on 70 minutes.

A good all round performance from the Robins to take all 3 points as they now prepare for a double header away to Launton at the weekend.
