Match Report - 03 May 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat MK Wanderers

The Robins rounded off their season with a 6-0 beating of MK Wanderers.

MK Wanderers turned up with only 10 players and began the game well, working hard to upset the rythm of their hosts. This resulted in a largely disjointed first half with the Robins finding it difficult to establish their usual passing game. The breakthrough arrived when the Robins won a corner on 15 minutes. Patterson delivered the ball with pace and found the head of Michelle Turner to score her 21st goal of the season.

Still the MK players worked hard to deny time and space for their hosts forcing several corners of their own. The Robins had to remain alert defensively to ensure that the Wanderers didn't get back into the game.

The Robins began to get more on top as the half wore on with Patterson forcing a good save from the Wanderers keeper. This was soon followed by another Jen Friar special where she took on 2 defenders before striking firmly across the goal into the bottom corner.

It wasn't too long into the second half when the Robins scored their third. On 57 minutes the Robins won a corner and again Patterson found the head of Turner who polished off her season with goal number 22.

Turner and Pankhurst made way for Bowen and Corkett who was returning after recovering from an ankle injury. Corkett immediately set about her work chasing and harrassing the Wanderers defenders forcing them into hurried clearances and causing them to concede possession more frequently. One such loose ball was seized upon by Elly Maggs who, by her standards, was having a quiet game. Maggs latched onto the ball and ran at the heart of the defence beating 2 players before finishing with style. She added her second with a well placed header from yet another Patterson corner.

Wanderers were understandably tiring at this stage and rarely threatened the Robins goal leaving Holloway largely redundant. Their efforts were hampered further when they lost another player to injury with 15 minutes remaining.

The final goal was scored by Elly Maggs who decided that her final 45 minutes of the season would be memorable as she struck again to complete her hat trick and secure her 20th goal of the season.

It was a fitting way to end what has been an excellent season for the players with a top 3 league finish and of course the success in the final of the Berks and Bucks Women's cup.

Today also saw Jen Patterson play her last game for the club as she is heading home to Wellington, New Zealand in the summer. It was good to see her contributing to 3 of the goals today as well as demonstrating her good all round passing qualities. I am sure that she will be missed by all of her team mates as well as the management and coaching staff. Good luck to you and Adam as you head off to pastures new!!
