Match Report - 27 Nov 2008, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies lost to Slough Ladies
The Robins 100% league record came to a halt against a determined Slough Ladies team on Thursday night. The first goal came from Slough when they broke through a square Bracknell back line allowing their striker to run through and slot past the valiant attempt of Cox in the Robins goal on 6 minutes. After this disappointment, the Robins began to show their ability when in possession, fashioning some quick accurate passing movements which disturbed their hosts who resorted to defending sensibly when under pressure and seeking to clear their lines. However, the pressure told after 20 minutes when the lively Jen Friar received a pass and ran aggressively at the Slough defence. As they backed off, she unleashed a shot that the Slough keeper was not able to deal with and from the resulting parry, the ever alert Maggs was on hand to score from close range.
The game became an end to end affair with both sides breaking well but ultimately conceding possession to each other. 1 -1 at half-time reflected well the way the game had unfolded.
At the start of the second half, Slough came out of the blocks the quickest and were sharper to the ball than their visitors. They wasted no time in regaining the lead when the ball broke for one of the pacey Slough strikers who calmly drew the keeper and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
Slough continued to threaten on the break with their pace in wide areas as well as up front but the Bracknell defensive unit regrouped well to snuff out any clear scoring chances. Bracknell again began to find their passing rythm and eventually found a way through the stubborn Slough back four when Libby Suchley was put through after another accurate passing move. Her strike left the keeper rooted to the spot who no doubt breathed a sigh of relief as the shot struck the foot of her far post and rebounded away from goal and cleared to safety. A couple of other chances came the Robins way but too many passes across the penalty area when a shot was on meant that when a shot finally was struck, it was usually when under severe defensive pressure and consequnetly missed the target. The visitors were left frustrated as the odd long range efforts were the only real attempts on the Slough goal.
Slough sealed the points 12 minutes from the end when a moment of indecision between 2 Robins players allowed a striker to break through and beat Cox in a one v one.
Slough deserved their victory through their hard work and never say die approach to the game and played to their strengths very effectively.
A disappointing result but some moments of quality passing and movement from the Robins. Being a little more couragoeus in front of goal and improving their concentration will no doubt see them returning to winning ways quickly.
