Match Report - 17 Aug 2008, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat MET Police

The Robins got off to a fast start at Met Police with Michelle Turner chasing down a pass from Clare Shell and succeeding in beating the on rushing keeper to the ball. Turner then finished expertly from an acute angle, rifling the ball into the net after only 50 seconds. However, this led to the Robins failing to impose themselves on their dogged but limited opponents.

The first half saw some decent passing movements resulting in some good efforts from the likes of Emma Constable who put in another strong performance. Their pressure resulted in a string of corners which were delivered with style by skipper Libby Suchley but the timing of the attacking runs was not as good as they should have been and opportunities to stretch the lead were wasted.

The Robins extended their lead in the 41st minute when Dawn Campbell, making her first appearance in Bracknell colours, struck from outside the box. Her shot took a deflection on the way into the net but no doubt will claim the goal as hers.

The second half saw several changes and before the new line up had a chance to settle into the game, a corner was conceded on 46 minutes. The corner bypassed Sam Holloway in the Town goal and the Robins defence stood and watched whilst a Met Police striker headed home for 2-1.

Jo Whittaker found herself on the end of a through ball in the 57th minute. Her run and strike smashed against the bar and the rebound found another debutant, Danni Wheedon, who fed the ball back to Whittaker who made no mistake with her next strike.

The game became scrappy with neither team able to get the ball down and pass with any purpose on what was a good surface. However, Kim Lockyer, a second half substitute arrived in the box as cross from Suchley flew across the face of the goal. A Met Police defender tried to clear the ball which got stuck under her feet and Lockyer pressured the ball and forced it home for 4-1. The final 20 minutes was no better and the game petered out for a positive result despite the Robins not having reached the high standards they have set themselves.

The next game on Thursday 21st August will provide a stiffer test where the visitors are last season's Southern Regional League Champions, Oxford City. Kick off will be 1945 at Larges Lane.
