Match Report - 24 Oct 2010, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Newbury Ladies & Girls (2ns Rnd Qual)
Today saw the Robins enter the Women's FA Cup at the 2nd qualifying round stage welcoming Newbury Ladies to Larges Lane.
The game began well for the visitors from the division below their hosts when an early corner was almost converted but for a timely intervention from skipper Tash Boyle who headed clear off the line. This early spell didn't last however as the hosts, despite 5 changes from the previous week, went up through the gears. A Sue Bowen cross was parried by the keeper only for Katy Miles to be on hand to pick up the loose ball and finish neatly on 6 minutes.
This pressure didn't last either as the hosts continually conceded possession cheaply allowing Newbury to keep a foothold in the game. The spectators had to wait until the 29th minute of the match to see another example of good quality football from the hosts. Tracy Corkett and Emma Constable combined to set up Caz Paterson to strike firmly from the edge of the 18 yard box, her rising shot hitting the top corner of the goal for a 2-0 lead at half time.
Newbury worked hard to frustrate the Robins but their resistance was broken again when, in the 72nd minute, an Emma Constable cross was expertly controlled in 1 touch and volleyed home with the 2nd by Paterson to extend the lead to 3-0. It was Paterson who struck again to claim her first hat trick for the Robins when she stretched to meet a Kate Miles cross and guide the ball into the net.
A minute later, Emma Constable picked up a loose ball and drove forward towards the opposition goal. She unleashed a shot from the edge of the penalty area which found the roof of the net to conclude a fine victory despite the Robins not being at their best.
Next week sees the Robins return to league action at home to Launton.
