Match Report - 12 Sep 2010, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Reading Town LFC
Reading Town were today's visitors to Larges Lane and they very quickly found themselves chasing the game when Tracy Corkett opened the scoring on 9 minutes. A good phase of play found Libby Shuttle wide on the right and she crossed to the far post area where Corkett was on hand to head home.
The hosts had to wait another 20 minutes before they extended their lead. Another spell of sustained pressure resulted in the ball finding Jen Friar just inside the opposition half. She took on and beat one player and as the Reading midfield retreated she made ground and then, let fly from all of 25 yards, her shot finding the top left corner of the goal.
5 minutes later, Caz Paterson made it 3 when she got on the end of a Tracy Corkett pass across the face of the 6 yard area.
The second half began with the Robins applying more pressure and it took only 5 minutes before Jo Atkins struck when she followed in an Emma Constable shot that cannoned back off the crossbar. However, the visitors showed that they too have potential in their young team when they pulled a goal back a minute later when a lapse of concentration by the Robins back line allowed them in.
On 65 minutes, Corkett struck her second of the game from close range following a Libby Shuttle corner. Again the Robins momentarily switched off and were duly punished for their sloppiness to make the score 5-2.
It didn't take long for the Robins to re-assert themselves when after another spell of concerted pressure, Jo Atkins went on a run and her resulting cross found its way into the net at the far post.
Caz Gardner, who scored last week, had only been on the pitch for 25 minutes before she struck from close range following another Shuttle corner.
Another substitute, Chakira Graham, showed her growing potential when put through by Emma Constable. Graham showed calmness as she drew the keeper and calmly stroked the ball into the bottom corner of the goal for 8-2.
Emma Constable, who had been orchestrating many of the Robins attacks got herself onto the scoresheet when she struck a wonderful volley from 20 yards out, the ball rocketing into the net. If only someone had been filming the game for the technique Constable demonstrated was a lesson to all players as to how to volley a ball!
Shuttle almost capped a fine game when she saw her powerful strike come back off the woodwork and scrambled away to safety. The Robins were not done though as Chakira Graham rounded off the scoring with another cool finish following a neat pass from late substitute, Abbey Clarke.
The Robins deserved their win but will be disappointed to have conceded 2 poor goals. Their next game is away to Portsmouth University in the league this Sunday, 2pm ko.
