Match Report - 31 Oct 2010, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Launton LFC

Launton Ladies were today's visitors to Larges Lane for a Premier league game. Launton have been difficult opponents for the Robins over the past couple of seasons and were expected to prove equally as troublesome for the hosts today.

Both sides started the game by trying to get the ball down on what was a very greasy surface due to the rain throughout the morning. The first to profit from an early attack were the Robins when Libby Shuttle found space on the right flank and struck a cross firmly into the penalty area. The ball drifted towards the goal and somehow dropped beyond the despairing keeper for 1-0 after only 4 minutes. The same player struck 3 minutes later when she struck a corner firmly towards the near post area and the keeper could not keep the ball out as it swung into the goal for 2-0.

Launton were a touch unfortunate when an offside decision ruled out what could have been a crucial goal after 15 minutes. This was the visitors only clear cut chance of the first half.

The hard working Tracy Corkett, ably supported by Katie Miles and Caz Paterson, almost got on the scoresheet when she turned her defender and struck with her left foot which the keeper saved. Corkett again went close with 2 headers from corners which she will have been disappointed not to have converted at least one of them.

Paterson showed that she was keen to follow on from last week's hat trick when she added the Robin's 3rd goal from just inside the penalty box from an astute Corkett pass.

Corkett was provider again on 34 minutes this time Katie Miles profiting from a good ball into the near post which she turned home from 6 yards out.

The hosts started the second half slowly but demonstrated that they wanted to increase their laed when Caz Gardner met a Libby Shuttle corner with a glancing header that skimmed the cross bar. Shortly after this Tracy Corkett got her reward when she calmly struck the Robins 5th goal following a neat exchange of passes between Jo Atkins and Caz Paterson. Barely a minute had passed before Emma Constable got herself on the score sheet for the 3rd successive game when her shot from 20 yards skidded off the turf into the bottom corner of the net.

Launton continued to work hard and kept possession well in spells and almost gained a deserved consolation goal when their skipper got through for a 1v1 situation only to be foiled by stand-in keeper Holloway.

The Robins back line were rarely troubled even when manager Dave Ward rang the changes to give 3 of his 4 subs a run out.

Libby Shuttle finished off a fine individual performance when she completed her first hat trick of the season with an excellent finish when she curled the ball round and over the advancing keeper to seal a resounding 7-0 visctory for the hosts.

Next week sees the Robins travel to league leaders Woodley Saints in the league cup for what promises to be a tough encounter.
