Match Report - 26 Aug 2010, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies lost to Aldershot Ladies

The Robins were on the wrong end of a defeat in this local derby. Aldershot were clearly up for the game and showed their intent with their high tempo pressing game. This resulted in the Robins being unable to settle into any rhythm and consequently their passes often went astray.

The best of the Robins attacks came from deep areas when Jen Friar was able to join in and get some early crosses into the danger area. Time and again, there was insufficient desire to attack the ball in key areas of the pitch allowing the Shots to gain possession and launch their attacks. Libby Shuttle came close on a couple of occasions for the Robins as she tried to find her shooting range but chances were at a premium.

On 31 minutes, the Shots broke down Bracknells right side and a firm cross was played across the face of the goal. This was met first time and planted right in the bottom corner of the net leaving Robertson no chance in the Robins goal.

Shortly after the goal, Shuttle played a diagonal pass to Jo Atkins who struck the ball well only to see the Shot's keeper pull off a great save, tipping the ball onto the bar and out for a corner. Libby Shuttle delivered another quality dead ball into the area which was scrambled out for another corner. This one saw Angie Whitney compete for and win the ball. She turned and shot only for an Aldershot defender to clear.

The second half saw no let up in the Shots pressure forcing errors around the pitch. All the time there was only one goal difference, the Robins were in with a chance. A good chance came Paterson's way but she took too long to decide what to do and was forced to hurry her finish which the Shots keeper dealt with comfortably. The game became more of a midfield battle with the Shots players still forcing the Robins into mistakes. As tiredness crept in, a loose clearance found its way to Emma North, the Shots skipper. She struck the ball on the volley and connected sweetly. Her shot gave Robertson no chance and effectively killed off any hopes of a Robins revival.

A faint glimmer of hope appeared as Atkins put in a cross to the far post area where Tracy Corkett attacked the ball. Her shot unfortunately went wide of the target. That was the Robins final chance to get back into the game with a little over 5 minutes to go.

Overall, the Shots wanted the victory more and were prepared to work hard to achieve it. The Robins were not at their best on the night but know they can do better. Next up is Wycombe Wanderers this coming Sunday.
