Match Report - 27 Sep 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Cheltenham Town Ladies
The Robins welcomed Cheltenham Town Ladies to Larges Lane for this 1st qualifying round of the FA Women's Cup. It began well for the Robins as they took an early lead on 3 minutes when Siobhan Ridout took a pass in her stride and beat her full back with power and pace. She then fired home from close range to leave the Cheltenham defence helpless.
A second goal arrived 6 minutes later when the Robins regained possession in the middle third. A pass found Shelley Strange wide on the left. She skilfully beat the defender to cross for the fast arriving Tracy Corkett who fired home from 8 yards.
As the game wore on, the Robins passing fluency seemed to evaporate in the heat. Many passes failed to find their intended target allowing the visitors to begin to find a way back into the game. They forced an excellent save from Emily Cross on 40 minutes but apart from that rarely threatened the Bracknell goal.
The second half saw the Robins start slightly the brighter but again they gave the ball away too cheaply and undid the good work they had accomplished when winning teh ball back. The visitors came close to getting back into the game when they struck the Robins cross bar with Cross beaten. Cross was called into action on another couple of occasions when she saved well low to her left and also when she tidied up a 1 v 1 situation.
Emma Constable came close to extending the Robins lead when she saw her firm header cannon back off the cross bar. Ridout popped up on the left when a fine Emily Campbell pass found her in space. She forced her way into the penalty area and held off her defender before striking firmly in at the near post.
A good result to begin this season's FA Women's Cup trail.
Next week the Robins are at home to Launton in the league.
