Match Report - 06 Dec 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies lost to Wycombe Wanderers

The Robins returned to competitive match action after a weather enforced lay-off stretching over 4 weeks. The team suffered some last minute withdrawals leaving them with a bare 11 immediately prior to kick-off. During teh warm-up, young keeper Kirsty Robertson aggravated a knee injury. Sam Holloway pulled on the shirt and gloves for a rare appearance between the sticks a the Robins began with only 10 players.

Both sides started brightly with the hosts forcing the early pace. They found the Robins competing for every ball and when they got hold of possession, used it well only to see the quality evaporate in the final third. The Robins played fluidly with Turner and Campbell regularly supplementing their midfield colleagues from full back areas. However on 25 minutes the Robins resistance was broken when the Wycombe number 17 received the ball inside the Robins penalty area and turned her defender to strike home from close range.

Shortly after this, Becky Powell arrived and entered the fray to bring the Robins up to the full complement. With Bowen joining Sophie Mabbett up front, the Robins began to play their way back into the game. They forced a corner on 43 minutes from which Caz Gardner made a strong near post run and met Jen Friar's corner firmly for the equaliser. However, the Robins joy was short lived as they were punished for an uncharacteristic error from Holloway as she tried to beat the oncoming Wycombe attacker after receiving a back pass only to be dispossessed and the ball stroked into the empty net.

The second half began with the Robins forcing the pace to try to get back on level terms. On 50 minutes a pass found Mabbett who then passed to Constable who took one touch and then played a clever ball through to young Jo Atkins. She controlled the ball with her first touch nad held off a Wycombe defender before unleashing a powerful shot that found the back of the net in style. At this point the game opened up as both sides began to tire. Atkins was again put through but this time her shot flew narrowly wide of the target. Wycombe also came close when Holloway was forced into making an excellent save to her left.

Both teams probed to make openings but few clear chances arose. With only 2 minutes remaining Wycombe won a corner. Some poor defending allowed the corner kick to travel deep into the 6 yard area where a Wycombe player was on hand to poke home the winner.

Next week the Robins return to league action with a trip to Launton.
