Match Report - 18 Oct 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Henley Ladies

Bracknell Town Ladies welcomed Henley to Larges Lane for this league encounter and promptly set about their task of gaining 3 points. Their early passing and movement caused problems for the visitors with Siobhan Ridout, Jen Friar and Shelley Strange all getting shots off as if trying to find their range. Henley to their credit continued to fight for every ball and looked threatening on the break but the Robins back 4 along with Holly Callard-Brooks deputising in goal for the injured Cross, dealt with everything competently.

An Alison Pankhurst pass found Siobhan Ridout in space and she surged into the penalty area to score the opener on 23 minutes. Pankhurst was again instrumental in creating the second goal which was scored by Jen Friar, her low shot finding the bottom corner of the net. The third goal was a perfect example of fast, flowing passing and movement as a sublime move saw 6 or 7 Robins players involved and mesmerising the visitors defence. The move was finished with relish by Shelley Strange whose powerful shot found the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

The fourth goal came as a result of another strong run from Ridout as she ran at the heart of the visitors defence, forcing her way past two defenders only to be fouled on the edge of the box. Emma Constable stepped up and struck the ball up and over the wall leaving the Henley keeper stranded. 4-0 at half time.

It didn't take long for the hosts to extend their lead as a cross from Friar found Strange in the penalty area. She guided the ball low into the bottom corner of the net with a fine left foot strike.

The Robins understandably took their foot off the pedal and allowed the visitors to get a foothold on the game. They managed to force several corners, something that they had failed to do in the first half. The Robins held firm and continued to try to add to their tally with Jen Friar coming closest as she saw a shot strike the foot of the post and rebound to safety.

A good afternoon for the Robins and they will need to take this form into next week's game as they welcome title favourites, Southampton Saints to Larges Lane in another league fixture.
