Match Report - 14 Mar 2010, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Slough Ladies

The Robins were made to work hard for all 3 points by a resilient Slough ladies at Larges Lane. Both sides struggled to get the ball down in the opening exchanges due, in part, to the bumpy playing surface.

The Robins found their rhythm first and began to impose themselves on Slough carving out several half chances down their visitors right flank. Angie Barton and Jen Friar combined well to get good quality ball into the penalty area only to see the chances spurned. However, a moment of quality in the 32nd minute saw Jen Friar latch onto a pass, skip past the right back and fire an excellent pass across the face of the goal that was begging to be put into the backof the net. Robins die-hards were not disappointed when Kim Lockyer, making a late run into the far post area, connected well to convert the chance. Emma Constable came close to extending the lead less than a minute later when her long range strike hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety.

The second half was a more even affair with both sides enjoying spells of pressure. Slough began to pass the ball better and showed their quality with some neat interchanges in the middle third but the final ball was either lacking or found their strikers starting their runs too early and being caught out by the linesman's flag. Jen Friar continued to cause problems for the Slough back line with some excellent runs and crosses only to find the Slough back line holding firm, Kim McClenn showing her class as an emergency central defender, marshalling her colleagues to good effect.

The Robins back line was similarly resolute with the return of Caz Gardner being of particular significance to her team mates. Tasha Boyle covered every run that beat the off-sidetrap with her pace and sound reading of the game. The 2 full backs, Campbell and Turner weighed in with timely interventions as well as getting forward at every opportunity to support their midfield colleagues. The returning Angie Barton impressed with her ability and tenacity along with her other midfielders where Holly Callard-Brooks was in the wars with a rib injury incurred in the warm-up and a mighty clash of heads when competing for a header.

Despite the hard work ethic of the Robins, Slough proved that they too could compete and made for an uncomfortable afternoon for the hosts. It was left to that one inspirational moment to settle the game and enable all 3 points to be added to the Robins tally.
