Match Report - 04 Oct 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies drew with Launton Ladies FC

The Robins welcomed basement side Launton to Larges Lane and allowed them to take a point home with them, the first they have picked up this season.

The Robins appeared to settle the quicker of the 2 teams as they got the ball down and passed it around well. However, too often the final ball was found wanting. Tracy Corkett had arguably the best chance to open the scoring when Emma Constable put her through. Corkett latched onto the pass and found herself in a 1v1 with the keeper only to strike the ball at the her for a comfortable save. On 17 minutes, the visitors took the lead when picking up another mis-placed pass in midfield. A quick ball to a Launton striker saw her get through 1v1 against a recovering defender to strike the ball powerfully into the net.

At this stage in the game, Launton settled well and began to pass the ball better and to cause the Bracknell defence some problems. Emily Cross in the Bracknell net was called upon to make a couple of saves as well as spread herself well to deny an attacker a clear sight of goal. On 25 minutes, Emma Constable showed her class when latching onto a pass from Strange. She held off a defender and struck powerfully with her left foot into the top corner of the goal. Pankhurst dropped a little deeper as the half wore on and she was often in the right place to break down Launton attacks and with her range of passing, helped to take the pressure off the Robins.

The second half saw the Robins start the half as it had ended with possession still being conceded too easily to their plucky opponents. Launton continued to press and another poor passing attempt was gathered by the Launton midfield and an accurate pass was controlled and struck, more in hope than expectation, in a high looping arc and dropped over the helpless Cross to give the visitors the lead again. Less than a minute had elapsed when the Robins were awarded a free kick 15 yards inside the Launton half. Alison Pankhurst struck the kick left to right and found the head of Corkett. She flicked the ball on for Constable to pounce for her second goal of the game to level the scores.

The Robins worked hard to get the win they craved but the Launton players dug deep and held on to take home a point. A disappointing performance from the Robins with too many players having an off day. The saving grace was that they competed well and worked hard to ensure they took something from the game.

Next week sees the Robins make the trip across to the Isle of Wight when they confront Shanklin in the FA Womens Cup.
