Match Report

Match Report - 20 Sep 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Henley Ladies

The Robins made the short trip to Henley for what promised to be a tough league encounter. A new look Henley team took to the field under new management and started quite brightly forcing an early corner. However, the Robins settled down quickly after the initial pressure and began passing the ball around at pace and with purpose. Siobhan Ridout picked up where she left off last week and produced a typically powerful run where she witheld several challenges before sliding the ball across the face of the goal when she got to the bye line to find Kim Lockyer at the far post to finish. 1-0 after 9 minutes.

Emma Constable came close with a couple of early strikes and Tracy Corkett almost opened her account when she took on and beat 3 players with a powerful run. Sadly she dragged her shot wide of the target but you could sense that she meant business and was hunting for her first goal of the season. She duly obliged when she followed in a on a powerful Pankhurst header from a corner. Pankhursts header crashed against the crossbar and Corkett was the first to react to nod home from close range. The Robins moved the ball well and consistently kept the home side on the backfoot. Henley fashioned some chances of their own forcing several corners one of which resulted in a well struck shot from just inside the penalty area. Emily Cross proved equal to it.

The second half saw more of the same with the Robins continuing to pass the ball well. Caz Gardner broke up a Henley attack just inside the Robins half and she picked out Corkett with a pass. Corkett returned the ball with her first touch which allowed Gardner to break beond the retreating Henley midfield players. She drove into the penalty area and played a firm cross across the face of the goal. Under pressure from Robins attackers, a Henley defender only succeeded in deflecting the ball into her own net. Henley continued to try to play and when the Robins sat back, they were able to get themselves into several fine attacking situations although they were rarely able to make Emily Cross in the Bracknell goal work particularly hard.

Bracknell rounded of the scoring in the 86th minute when Corkett latched onto a through ball that took her through onto goal. The Henley keeper stood up well and forced Corkett wide. However, Corkett remained calm and picked out the fast arriving Shelley Strange who finished well from 6 yards.

Another good performance from the Robins who passed the ball well and kept the pace of the game high. They took their chances in front of goal and deservedly took the 3 points. Next week sees the Robins welcome Cheltenham Town Ladies in the FA Cup at Larges Lane, ko 14.00.
