Match Report - 06 Sep 2009, Bracknell Town Ladies FC Bracknell Town Ladies beat Chesham United Reserves

The Robins made the trip to RAF Naphill for a league cup encounter against Chesham Ladies Reserves and came away with a victory they made hard work of.

It took a while before either side found any ryhthm in their play but it was the Robins who settled slightly the quicker of the two. On a bumpy pitch, the Robins struggled to find any fluency as their hosts worked extremely hard to unsettle their more senior opponents. Kim Lockyer was the Robins most effective player in the opening 45 minutes with some excellent balls into the danger area although these chances were left begging.

Emma Constable came close to breaking the deadlock with a firm header from a corner. On 37 minutes, the Robins forced a corner which was initially defended well by Chesham. A loose ball was worked out to Lockyer whose cross was attacked by Shelley Strange. She got there slightly ahead of the Chesham keeper to force the ball home from close range.

Despite taking the lead, the Robins still failed to take a firm grip of the game all too often conceding possession cheaply when they tried to force the issue.

The second half was a dull affair as the tempo of the game was pedestrian and neither side seemed capable of lifting the quality and pace of the game. Emily Cross in the Robins goal, was forced to make one flying save to her right that appeared to be one for the cameras to brighten the spectators day. Corkett came close on a couple of occassions as did Sue Bowen who came on as a substitute for Strange who had become the victim of tight calf muscles. Claire Gould made her first appearance in Bracknell red when she replaced Holly Collard-Brooks midway through the second half.

The game petered out with Chesham unable to fashion any real chances and Bracknell going home with a place in the next round despite a lacklustre performance.
